Fourth arrest made in fatal shooting outside Waterbury courthouse

Tory Keith becomes fourth arrest made in fatal shooting outside Waterbury courthouse.

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – A fourth suspect has been charged with murder after a fatal shooting in Waterbury Superior Court in March, Waterbury police said.

Tory Keith, 34, of Meriden, was charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

On Wednesday, Keith was taken into custody at his residence and held on $5 million bail pending his arraignment in court, scheduled for Thursday, June 13.

He also had several outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear in previous court appearances for unrelated offenses.

No additional arrests are expected, police said.

Since the March 21 shooting, three other people have been charged in connection with the same case: Dante Howell, 29, Deera Nelson, 21, and Nicholas Chiapponi, 26. They were all being held on multimillion-dollar bail.

The charges stem from approximately 11:40 a.m. March 21, when officers responded to a report of a shots-fired incident with a gunshot victim outside the 400 Grand Street courthouse.

Police determined the victim, Jarron Chapman, 26, of Waterbury, had attended the trial earlier in the day and was leaving the courthouse when the shooting occurred.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries.
