Four seriously injured, some ejected, in crash near Woodstock

Four people were seriously injured, some of them ejected from cars, in an overnight crash in unincorporated Woodstock, authorities said.

Alex Vucha, Woodstock Fire and Rescue District communications specialist, said firefighters were dispatched to the 11200 block of Charles Road at 2:07 a.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash with unknown injuries.

Firefighters arrived within six minutes and observed a single-vehicle rollover where two occupants appeared to have been ejected.

He said one occupant became trapped and another occupant freed himself from the vehicle.

Paramedics quickly began assessing the four occupants to determine the severity of their injuries, Vucha said.

Firefighters extricated the trapped passenger within four minutes and began medical treatment, Vucha said.

Four medical helicopters were requested, Vucha said, but all declined due to nighttime weather conditions.

All four patients were transported by ambulance to local hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to critical, Vucha said.

Firefighters remained on scene for two more hours to assist crash investigators, Vucha said.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, Vucha said.

The Woodstock Fire Protection and Rescue District was assisted by members of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District, and Fire Protection Districts. Marengo fire and rescue.

This is the fourth major accident to occur in or near Woodstock in the past five days.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in a crash that killed Belen Estrada, 29, at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday near Dean Street and Gayle Drive in unincorporated Woodstock.

Fabian Velazquez, 25, of Woodstock, died in a fatal crash at the intersection of Routes 47 and 176 in Lakewood Friday evening after firing a gun into a Woodstock home and losing control of his vehicle while he was running from the police.

The third fatal accident occurred Saturday when a motorcyclist died following a crash with a minivan at the intersection of Route 176 and Dean Street.
