Four more boys, including a 12-year-old, arrested after teenage girl was raped on playground

Police are appealing to the Newark community for information after four more boys were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape. They were released on bail under strict conditions.

Nottinghamshire Police received a report that a teenage girl had been attacked at Yorke Drive playing fields.

Four other boys, including a 12-year-old, were arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage girl in Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police received a report that a teenage girl had been attacked at the playing fields on Yorke Drive, Nottinghamshire, between 5.30pm and 7pm on May 25. A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys were all arrested. suspected of rape, police said. They were all released on bail and subject to strict conditions.



Four other teenagers, two aged 15 and two aged 16, were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape and all four remain on conditional release, police said. Detective Inspector Amy Revill, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We have made four further arrests in this case and our investigation continues to progress at pace.

“We are continuing to support the girl and her family with specially trained officers and are doing all we can to establish exactly what happened. I would like to again appeal to the local community and anyone who may have information to contact us. Several people have come forward to help us with our requests – so thank you for your help.

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, Newark District Commander, added: “I understand the concerns this incident has caused in our Newark community. But I want to make it clear that the team of detectives investigating this incident are working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.

“We have carried out additional patrols in the area and this will continue. So if you have any concerns please speak to one of my agents. We also ask people to avoid speculation as we work through this process. We will make sure to keep you informed of the progress of our investigation.
