Four Hawaii State Sheriffs Arrested

Following three separate investigations by state sheriff's deputies, four people were arrested.

The Department of Law Enforcement was created in January and consolidated responsibilities from the former Department of Public Safety. Sheriffs' misconduct has been cited as a result of the transfer of law enforcement assets to the new department.

The three investigations involve the capital's central patrol, airport driving and some central patrol deputies.

“From what I understand, there were two arrests during the first investigation regarding the Capital District, and then two arrests recently related to the incidents at the airport, so these people have been placed on leave administrative with pay,” said State Department of Law Enforcement Director Jordan Lowe. “As part of the third investigation, five deputies were placed on administrative leave with pay. »

On July 28, a member of parliament was also arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the racial harassment of a black intern.

Asked about the harassment, Lowe was unable to respond because it is an ongoing criminal investigation.
