Four dead in Dodge County Memorial Day crash identified

JAIL. THE DODGE COUNTY SHERIFF HAS IDENTIFIED FOUR TEENS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT OVER THE WEEKEND. LUIS GOUVEIA, 19, ERIC GUMIHO CALZADA, 17, IVAN HERRERA, 16, OF SUN PRAIRIE, AND ALEX HERNANDEZ, 18, OF FALL RIVER, ALL DIED WHEN INVESTIGATORS SAY THE TRUCK THEY WERE STANDING IN BLOWN A STOP SIGN AND COLLIDES WITH A SEMI TRAILER. , IT HAPPENED SHORTLY BEFORE 4:00 AM MONDAY MORNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 1660 AND T.TI COUNTY ROAD IN THE TOWN OF ELBA, AN 18 YEAR OLD FROM MADISON WAS HOSPITALIZED WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. THE DRIVER OF THE SEMI WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FROM A HOSPITAL. THE SHERIFF SAYS THERE WERE NINE CRASHES

Dodge County Sheriff's Office identifies four people killed in holiday weekend crash

Four teenagers died and two people were injured when a tractor-trailer crashed into a truck running through a stop sign.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office has identified the four people killed in a collision between a truck and a tractor-trailer early Monday morning. The Memorial Day tragedy occurred around 4 a.m. Monday in the town of Elba. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said a pickup truck heading north on County Highway TT failed to stop at the stop sign. He crossed Highway 16 and a semi-trailer struck the van. The identities of those who died in yesterday's crash were: Driver: Luis Gamillo, 19, Sun Prairie Passenger: Alix Hernandez, 18, Fall River Passenger: Erik Gamillo Calzada, 17, Sun Prairie Passenger: Ivan Herrera , 16, Sun Prairie Meanwhile, another passenger, Joseline Herrera, 18, of Madison, is seriously injured in the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jeffrey Brown, 57, of La Farge, was treated and released from the hospital. Sun Prairie East High School shared a message with school families Monday evening. School officials said Calzada was in the 11th grade at the high school. They said Gamillo and Hernandez both graduated from Sun Prairie East in 2023. La Follette High School in Madison told 12 News the other two passengers were students at La Follette but did not specify their grades. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said in its statement Tuesday afternoon that the Dodge County Highway Department and the Dodge County Highway Safety Committee studied this intersection and recommendations were made to the department of Wisconsin Transportation. However, the sheriff's office said it cannot control safety improvements at intersections across the state. There have been nine accidents at this intersection in the last ten years. One of these accidents was fatal; two people died. The sheriff's office said “numerous” safety improvements were requested at the intersection because it was “problematic.” The Wisconsin DOT has not approved the requests.
