Former Springfield Teacher/Volunteer, PIAA Referee/Coach Arrested for Trafficking and Sexual Abuse of At Least Four Minors, Police Seek More Victims

The Springfield Township Police Department announced that Tyler Degiacomo, 33, of Oreland, was arrested for his alleged role in the trafficking and sexual abuse of minors involving at least four victims in Pennsylvania and Alabama.

According to the department, a concerned parent reported in March that she found child sexual abuse material on her daughter's phone that had been sent via text message to a man in his 30s named “Tyler.” . Through the investigation, the man was identified as Degiacomo, a former substitute teacher and volunteer with the Springfield Township School District as well as a PIAA baseball umpire and coach.

After the execution of multiple search warrants and through the use of digital forensic examinations of electronic devices, four victims were identified by detectives, Springfield police said.

Two juveniles are from Montgomery County, another victim was located in Clarion County, and a fourth victim was located in Houston County, Alabama. Each alleged victim was contacted by Degiacomo on the social media applications TikTok and/or Snapchat, police said.

Degiacomo is charged with trafficking of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, criminal use of a means of communication, assault of modesty and supply of alcohol to minors.

He was arraigned on Saturday, June 1, and his bond was set at $500,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11, police said.
