Former police chief pleaded guilty and sentenced

SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former Northumberland County police chief was sentenced Tuesday after admitting to stealing money.

Brad Hare pleaded guilty to stealing money from the American Hose Company Social Hall in Sunbury.

Suspicions of money theft were raised last August, so surveillance cameras were installed and caught Hare stealing money acquired through video game systems.

The total amount stolen was just under $7,000 over a period of time.

Hare was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation, including nine months of house arrest.

“I really let the community down. I let my friends down, a lot of my family, so I met a lot of you throughout all of this and everyone has always been fair to me and I just say to anyone who has an addiction or alcohol problem, you know, get help,” Hare said.

“What concerns you most about the sentencing? What will be the most difficult thing? » asked 28/22 reporter Jason LiVecchi.

“There won’t be anything difficult. I'm in a recovery program and I'm going to keep it that way and keep moving forward. That’s what I can do,” Hare replied.

Travis Bremgen was sworn in as Sunbury's new police chief last December.
