Former NFL player arrested after missing son found safe in Indiana

LOGANSPORT, Ind. — A former NFL player has been arrested after his 14-year-old son, who went missing more than two weeks ago, was found safe at their Indiana home, police said.

Indiana State Police said Bryson Muir “appears to be safe” after he was found early Wednesday morning at the home of his parents, Daniel and Kristen Muir, in Logansport. Bryson was released into the care of the Cass County Department of Children’s Services. His parents were taken into custody without incident, police said.

Daniel Muir, 40, who played college football at Kent State and several NFL teams, has been charged with obstruction of justice and domestic violence. Kristen Muir, 38, is charged with obstruction of justice. Both are being held in the Cass County Jail.

Bryson Muir was found around 6 a.m. when a SWAT unit arrived at the family's home with a search warrant, police said. He had last been seen shortly before 8 a.m. on June 16, leaving a family member's residence in Cleveland with Kristen Muir, according to a police news release.

According to Indiana police, the vehicle driven by his mother was stopped later that day by the Garfield Heights Police Department. Bryson was not in the vehicle, police said.

A Silver Alert was issued on Friday, June 28, after Daniel Muir and his wife reportedly backed out of a meeting agreement with police, saying they would take Bryson with them.

The Cass County Department of Children's Services called state police on June 18 to investigate reports that Bryson was a victim of domestic violence, police said. Cheryl Wright, a Cleveland-area resident and Kristin Muir's mother, told WTHR Channel 13 she contacted police because she saw Bryson with a black eye, a greasy lip and a swollen face. She said her grandson blamed Daniel Muir for causing the injuries.

Daniel Muir, 40, is a former NFL defensive tackle who played seven seasons, from 2007 to 2013, with the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets and Oakland Raiders.
