Former Fire Chief Dancyzk Helps Capture Car Thief

Late yesterday afternoon, a black Nissan Rogue was stolen from the Circle K on Frontage and Indiana. The suspect fled in the vehicle but did not get very far.

“We were in the yard and Theresa said there was someone in the driveway,” said former Fire Chief Craig Dancyzk. “It was parked a little oddly, a little on the grass in front of my utility trailer. I said 'Dude, what's up?' He said, “Dude, I’m in the wrong aisle,” so I said, okay.

After a few minutes, the man was still there and Dancyzk had a funny feeling, so he grabbed a gun from the house while his wife called 911. “They (911) asked if the car was a Nissan black, she said to me: 'yeah.' They told him to shelter in place, the car is stolen. I already had my 44 Magnum and I was over there telling him to get on the ground, the police were on their way.

He didn't fall to the ground. Instead, he walked away and walked down Porter's Chapel toward Moon Mist Drive. “It took a few minutes but the police arrived. I pointed the unit at Enchanted Hills but they didn't find it. The police unit came back and asked what he looked like and as I described him, talking to the officer in my driveway, I was like, “Damn, there he is!” Incredibly, the suspect was walking up Porter Chapel to where he had abandoned the vehicle.

The suspect had gone to Raintree Drive and attempted to break into a home, according to Dancyzk.

The VPD officer took the suspect into custody. “He was kicking doors and windows, right inside that car,” Dancyzk said.

The people whose car had been stolen showed up at the scene and were able to recover their vehicle.

Investigator Jerrold Hayes of the VPD said in a text response: “Suspect information will become available as the investigation continues. »
