Former engineers sue SpaceX and Elon Musk for alleged harassment

Top line

A group of eight former SpaceX engineers filed a lawsuit in California on Wednesday against the aerospace company and CEO Elon Musk over allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation, according to multiple media reports.

Highlights

The lawsuit was filed by four men and four women engineers who claim they were illegally fired in 2022 after expressing concerns about sexual harassment allegations, Reuters reported.

The plaintiffs wrote an open letter to the company's management in 2022 “challenging the illegal and hostile work environment endemic to the company” and were subsequently fired, according to a press release from the two law firms representing the engineers.

Anne Shaver, one of the plaintiffs' lawyers, said in a statement that the aerospace company's management “knowingly permitted and encouraged a work environment rife with sexual harassment,” adding: “Being fired for protesting against SpaceX's complete failure to take the basics into account. measures to prevent sexual harassment are clearly retaliatory, wrongful, and sued.

Representatives for SpaceX did not immediately respond to Forbes' request for comment.
