Former Cheltenham resident convicted of choking and threatening domestic partner

Paul S. Whatley Jr., 61, formerly of the 700 block of Camberley Road in the Glenside section of Cheltenham Township, was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in prison after being convicted of threatening of choking a woman with a penknife on May 11. 2023 in their former residence, according to the Pottstown Mercury.

Whatley is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possession of an instrument of crime.

He must serve two years of probation following parole and is prohibited from having contact with the victim, the Mercury said. He was also ordered to stay away from the Camberley Road residence.

An investigation was launched after Cheltenham police responded to a report of a domestic incident after a relative of the victim called 911, Mercury said. Whatley and the victim told police they had argued over financial matters.

The victim said Whatley “became physical with her after telling her she was talking too much, grabbing her left wrist, choking her by grabbing her throat and making a cutting motion near her throat with an open penknife,” according to the criminal complaint. .
