Former Blue Valley Coach Sentenced to 36 Months Probation for Child Sex Crimes

A former Blue Valley Southwest High School athletic coach has been sentenced to 36 months of probation after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a child.

Christopher Poskey, 40, of Overland Park, was sentenced Friday on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child in Johnson County District Court. Court records show he reached a plea deal in April.

Prosecutors said Poskey, who worked for the University of Kansas Health System, enticed a child under the age of 18 to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Blue Valley School District staff and a school resource officer were listed as witnesses in a criminal complaint filed in April 2023.

Blue Springs District Court Judge Neil Foth ruled to seal the affidavits in the case. In a motion made last year, Foth said the statements should not be revealed in order to maintain the confidentiality of law enforcement techniques or procedures.

Investigators said Poskey admitted to having several sexually explicit conversations with minors or those he believed to be minors.

They said he also admitted to taking sexually explicit images of himself and sending them to minors while he was working.

Poskey worked for the University of Kansas Health System for about nine years. He agreed to give up his athletic training license after an order from the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in June 2023.

In the order, Poskey acknowledged that if a formal hearing were held, the commission would have sufficient evidence to revoke his license.
