Fordyce, Arkansas mass shooting suspect Travis Posey arrested


Travis Posey, 44, faces charges of attempted capital murder, the Ouachita County Sheriff's Office said.

The suspect accused of killing three people and wounding 14 others in a mass shooting in Fordyce, Arkansas, Friday morning has been identified, according to inmate records.

Travis Posey, 44, a resident of New Edinburg, about 79 miles south of Little Rock, was arrested around 6:26 p.m. on June 21. Posey was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. suffered when Arkansas State Police attempted to arrest him. “I checked Callie's location through good old Live 360 ​​and it showed she was in the hospital,” Browning told the news station. “I'm like, 'She's at work.' She came to help.'”

After not hearing from Weems for a while, Browning and her husband, Bruce Grice, went to the grocery store.

“My best friend was standing right there and I said, 'Kristie, tell me my baby is okay.' and she said, 'I can't,'” Browning said. “And that’s when I broke.”

Weems, a mother of a 10-month-old child, was shopping before she was tragically killed. Another family member was also at the store and was killed, Browning said.

“Our niece’s father was there too and he’s no longer with us,” she said. “So it’s a double whammy for our family.”

Arkansas government officials release statements on shooting

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement Friday afternoon on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying she was communicating with law enforcement about the matter.

“I have been informed of the tragic Fordyce shooting and am in constant contact with the State Police on scene,” Sanders said. “I am grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those affected by this horrific incident.”

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is praying for its community as it takes steps toward recovery.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families affected by today’s tragedy.” the office wrote in a Facebook post. “We are heartbroken for the city of Fordyce and the Dallas County community.”
