Fond Du Lac sexual assault case demonstrates failure of Biden's open border policy, state official says

Fond du Lac County's arrest of man who entered the country illegally in child sex abuse case shows child sex trafficking doesn't just happen in big cities and highlights the “continuing dangers of Biden and the Democratic Party’s open borders policies.” said a Republican state representative.

Rep. Jerry O'Connor (R-Fond du Lac) released the following statement after the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest and revealed that the suspect, whose real name is unclear , had entered the country illegally via the United States. Mexico border.

“Sunday afternoon, a member of the FDL community called the FDL County Sheriff's Department to report that a 12-year-old girl had come to their door asking for help after escaping from a man who l “Bought her mother, tied her up and blindfolded her before attempting to sexually assault her,” O'Connor wrote in a press release. “Miraculously, the young girl was able to fight back and escape this horrible situation to find help. On Monday, LDF sheriff's deputies arrested the child's mother and the child's attacker.

“This horrific situation highlights the fact that child sex trafficking does not only occur in big cities but also in small towns right here in Wisconsin. As chair of the Human Trafficking Task Force, we have investigated horrific situations like this throughout Wisconsin. We have worked to provide law enforcement and nonprofit organizations with the tools they need to end the problem of human trafficking in our communities,” he emphasized.

“This tragic situation also highlights the continuing dangers of Biden and the Democratic Party’s open border policies. The suspect had illegally immigrated to the United States from Nicaragua,” he wrote. “He was arrested by the US Border Patrol in 2021, only to be released under Biden's open borders 'catch and release' policy. Until this administration takes law enforcement and the security of our borders seriously, situations like this are likely to occur with increasing frequency. »

O'Connor continued, “Thank you to Sheriff Waldschmidt and the FDL County Sheriff's Department for their efforts to help this young girl and combat child sex trafficking in our community.”

In a previous statement, the Fond du Lac County sheriff said the girl dramatically escaped in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, from the vehicle of a suspect who entered the United States illegally from Mexico three years ago and who tried to sexually assault her. .

The girl “had just fled from a vehicle in the area where an adult male had tied her up and blindfolded her and was attempting to assault her,” said Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan F. Waldschmidt, in a press release. “Bravely, she was able to fight back, free herself from the suspect and the vehicle, and ran to the house for help.”

“It is alleged that the suspect paid the victim’s mother, whom he knew, in exchange for spending time alone with the victim,” he wrote.

“Sheriff's detectives have determined that the suspect in the assault is a 30 or 31 year old Nicaraguan man (legal identity yet to be determined based on several aliases) who entered the United States illegally from Mexico to Texas in October 2021,” he wrote.

“At that time, he was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, processed in a federal facility, and released from custody with instructions to follow in accordance with federal immigration policy in force,” the statement said. “Detectives are still working to determine the immigration status of the victim’s mother. She was also arrested for numerous crimes related to this incident, and both are currently in custody at the Fond du Lac County Jail. Additional arrests may be made once the remainder of the investigation is completed.

According to Waldschmidt, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 12:12 a.m., deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office “were dispatched to a private residence in the rural town of Oakfield for a complaint of sexual assault. The caller was a resident who reported that a 12-year-old female had just come to his door asking for help.

Due to the nature of the allegations, detectives “were called to continue the investigation which progressed rapidly over the next 40 hours,” the release said.

“Detectives were able to determine the identity and location of the suspect and a tactical plan was developed to take him into custody,” Waldschmidt wrote. “The Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, with assistance from the Fond du Lac Police Department SWAT Team, executed a search warrant at a residence on Marquette Street in the Town of Fond du Lac Monday evening . During the SWAT operation, the suspect was ultimately arrested without incident.

This investigation is complex and involves “many serious potential crimes, including sexual assault of a child, wrongful detention, child trafficking, failure to protect a child, etc.” “, wrote the sheriff.

“The juvenile victim and her siblings were all safely placed in protective custody by Fond du Lac County Social Services,” the release said. “Further details of this case will be released in a criminal complaint when the suspects are criminally charged.” Until then, the sheriff's office will not release
