Fond Du Lac convenience store clerk sentenced in connection with fatal accident

(Fond du Lac) A Fond du Lac convenience store clerk who sold alcohol to a teenager involved in a double-fatal crash has been sentenced. Sanju Paudel of Fond du Lac pleaded no contest to two counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor resulting in death.

In an emotional hearing, Fond du Lac County Judge Andrew Christenson sentenced her to nine months in prison and six years of probation. The 28-year-old will no longer be able to sell alcohol or hold a job involving the sale of alcohol.

Paudel sold 16-year-old Tommy Koenigs beer and rum on January 20 last year. Less than 12 hours later, he and two other teenagers were involved in a car accident on Golf Course Drive.

The accident resulted in the death of driver Koenigs and a passenger, 16-year-old Nevins Zoch. Koenigs was driving under the influence when the vehicle struck a tree.

District Attorney Eric Toney said no sentence can ease the family's pain and no sentence could add value to the lives of Zoch and Koenigs. He hopes this conviction will act as a deterrent and a wake-up call to those selling alcohol to ensure they are doing their job in protecting children by checking IDs.
