Florida teen involved in deadly police standoff after shooting parents

A Florida teenager who fatally shot his parents later died during a confrontation with law enforcement.

The incident occurred Saturday evening in Tampa, Florida, when authorities responded to a distressing 911 call made by the teen's mother moments before she died.

The situation began with a distressing 911 call from the mother, who reported that her husband had been shot.

During the call, dispatchers heard additional gunshots, prompting local police to urgently respond.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered 19-year-old Christos Alexander Themelis Jr. and his mother, Rebecca, outside their home.

The situation quickly escalated when Christos Jr. shot his mother and then opened fire on deputies.

Impasse and result

In the exchange of gunfire that followed, Christos Jr. retreated inside the house. The confrontation ended when police entered the home and found him deceased.

The parents were identified as Rebecca Ann Themelis, 48, and Christos Byron Themelis, 51.

Consequences and recovery

One of the deputies was shot, suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

He has since undergone surgery and is said to be in stable condition.
