Flagler Sheriff's Office patrols to increase over Memorial Day weekend | Local News Observer

In anticipation of increased traffic on Flagler County roadways, as well as increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic in our oceanfront communities, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) and our law enforcement partners will increase patrols throughout Memorial Day weekend to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe Memorial Day weekend.

FCSO will participate in CARE (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort) National Patrol Operation through May 27, which aims to increase law enforcement presence on interstate and U.S. highways in high-crash areas in order to reduce accidents. The FCSO Traffic Enforcement Unit and the Florida Highway Patrol, the Flagler Beach Police Department and the Bunnell Police Department are all partnering with the FCSO for this traffic safety initiative to make our roadways across the Flagler County safer. The team will focus on aggressive driving, speed and seat belt use. Additional patrol units will also be dedicated to combating drunk driving throughout the weekend.

“To honor our fallen heroes safely this weekend, be sure to have a designated driver and remember that the purpose of the holiday weekend is to honor the sacrifice of our fallen military heroes. fight,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The Flagler County Sheriff's Office will be out in full force to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend. Our deputies are giving up their vacations to make sure yours is an enjoyable one, so let's our best to avoid spending time at the new bars at the Green Roof Inn.

This increased presence is not limited to our roads. On county waterways, the FCSO Marine Unit and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will patrol to watch for boaters under the influence and acting recklessly.

“Plan to have a sober driver or captain if you plan to drink. It really is that simple. If you choose not to, you can count on spending your holiday weekend at the Green Roof Inn,” added Sheriff Staly. “We want everyone to have a safe Memorial Day weekend, so don’t put yourself or others in danger by driving or boating impaired.”

FCSO encourages everyone to do their part to prevent crimes of opportunity by locking their car doors and removing valuables from view, especially in beach access areas. People should always be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office by calling 386-313-4911.

Sheriff Staly and the men and women of FCSO would like to thank all veterans, active duty, and our fallen heroes and their families for their service this Memorial Day.
