Flagler Sheriff Offers a Holiday Monitoring Program for Your Home

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office is once again encouraging residents to take advantage of its Vacation Watch program while traveling this summer.

Through this community safety program, each household can receive up to 20 vacation home monitoring checks per year. During these checks, uniformed members of FCSO's Citizen Observer Patrol inspect the exterior of the home to ensure it is secure. If something seems suspicious, the COP notifies the owner.

“The Vacation Watch program is made possible by the tremendous efforts of our volunteer COPs, who truly go out of their way to give back to our community,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “While the Vacation Watch program cannot guarantee the security of your home or guarantee that it will not be damaged while you are away, it is a preventative measure that may also detect any problems before you return home.”

The STAR program provides residents with free home safety assessments and allows residents to schedule an appointment for a complete home safety inspection. Homeowners can then choose to make the recommended security improvements and once the improvements are made and after a final inspection, the resident will receive a Secure Home STAR approval.

There are two ways to register for the Vacation Watch or STAR program: apply in person at the FCSO Palm Coast District office located at 14 Palm Harbor Village Way, or online at COP Vacation Watch Request. The request for vacation home monitoring must be submitted five days before the start of the trip.
