Five Teens Arrested After Police Chase in Medford – NBC Boston

Five teenagers were arrested after a shoplifting incident and police chase in Medford, Massachusetts, on Thursday.

Medford police said they responded to a report of shoplifting at DICK's Sporting Goods located at 3850 Mystic Valley Parkway around 11 a.m.

Authorities say a store employee provided information about the vehicle, and it was confirmed that the dark gray Kia Sportage had been reported stolen in Belmont earlier Thursday.

Police say they located and followed the vehicle as it sped down Commercial Street, then westbound on Route 16 to Winthrop Street and High Street until it reached Alto Drive, where it crashed into the fence of a home.

Two teens were initially arrested while three others fled, but were found and arrested shortly after, authorities said. Charges against the teens are still pending.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The homeowner spoke to NBC10 Boston and said she feels lucky the SUV didn't hit her house.

“Oh my God, it was terrible. It was totally unexpected,” said Suzanne Sarno, who was home at the time of the crash. “All of a sudden there was like a boom and the car went through the fence… There’s some garden beds over there that I think stopped the car, otherwise it probably would have tried to keep going.”

“It’s more scary, like what if someone is there? What if something happens, you know,” she said. “You know, you say you’re lucky in some things, you’re unlucky but lucky in other things.”
