Five teenagers hospitalized with serious injuries after car crashes into tree in East Kilbride

Four teenagers were thrown from a car and a fifth had to be freed from the vehicle after it crashed into a tree.

All five men are in hospital with serious injuries following the collision in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, on Sunday evening.

Police Scotland said the black Vauxhall Astra appeared to have lost control and struck the tree at around 8.55pm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters removed the trapped victim from the vehicle and he was transferred to hospital by air ambulance.

“The other four victims were taken into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”

Police Scotland said the 18-year-old driver and two passengers, aged 17 and 18, were taken to that of Glasgow Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A 16-year-old passenger was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, while a 15-year-old passenger was transferred to the city's Royal Hospital for Children.

The collision occurred on Crookedshields Highway near its intersection with Crookedshields Road.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: “As our inquiries continue, I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“I would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, saw the black Astra driving or who has dashcam footage of the area around that time.”
