Five Los Angeles teens arrested for robbery in Thousand Oaks

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Five Los Angeles teenagers were arrested for robbing two elderly victims at the Oaks Mall Thursday afternoon, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office (VCSO).

According to calls received by the VCSO, one man had his watch stolen and another had his purse stolen after being beaten and requiring medical attention.

VCSO deputies found a green sedan with the five suspects near Lynn Road and Highway 101, where the car failed to complete a traffic stop.

A car chase ensued and ended when the vehicle stopped at a dead end and the five teens fled on foot, VCSO said.

One suspect was taken into custody without incident and the other four were later located under surveillance of one of the victims, the VCSO said.

A 13-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys were taken to the Ventura County Juvenile Center on charges of robbery, conspiracy and elder abuse, as well as firearms charges, according to VCSO.

The two 18-year-olds were charged with the following criminal offenses after being booked into the Ventura County Pretrial Detention Center:

  • Penal Code 211/Theft
  • Penal Code 182(a)(1) / Conspiracy
  • Criminal Crime Code 368(a) / Elder Abuse
  • Highway Code 2800.2(a) / Evading Crime
  • 25400(a)(2) PC / Carrying a concealed firearm on one's person
  • 25850(a) PC / Carrying a loaded firearm
  • 27545 PC / Illegal transfer of a firearm.
