First responders work to put out Springfield fire

First responders helped extinguish a third-alarm fire at the Springfield BioMass Power Plant Friday, authorities said. New London Fire said they responded to a first alarm fire at the Springfield BioMass Power Plant on Fisher Corner Road around 10:30 p.m. escalated into a third alarm after a conveyor belt was fully involved and part of the structure collapsed. More than a dozen crews worked for several hours to put out the fire around 1 a.m. Authorities said there were no injuries. Authorities said the fire was ruled accidental and they were still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
