First responders and firefighters respond to deceased man near Lakepoint

A man was found dead on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 5, at a trucking company near Lake Point.

Tooele Dispatch received a call around 4:17 p.m. from a family member of a man who told dispatchers their loved one was unresponsive to the ground at TDC Trucking Company, located near exit 201 of I- 80, according to Jon Smith, Public Information Officer for the North Tooele Fire District.

The family member told the station they were performing CPR on the man at the time of the call. When a Utah Highway Patrol officer responded to the scene, they took over from CRP until paramedics arrived and pronounced the man deceased. Firefighters from the North Tooele Fire District arrived on scene and determined it was a potential hazardous materials situation as the business deals with hazardous materials.

“We didn’t know if there was a leak or environmental issues or if it posed a threat to the community,” Smith said.

A hazardous materials team from the NTFD was dispatched, as well as hazardous materials teams from the Unified Fire Department and Tooele Army Depot. Crews checked the buildings and parking area and determined there was no threat to the public or first responders, Smith said.

The state medical examiner was dispatched to the scene and began an investigation. Although the call was “cardiac arrest,” the cause of death is still unclear. Smith said when a person's heart stops, the call always presents as cardiac arrest.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of family.
