Fires break out within hours of each other in Sudley, Haymarket

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Virginia (DC News Now) — Crews from the Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department were on the scene of two separate fires that broke out within hours of each other early Saturday morning.

Authorities responded to the first fire just before 1 a.m. in the 7600 block of Monitor Court in Sudley. The fire broke out at the rear of a townhouse.

All occupants of the house were able to escape safely and the fire was brought under control a few minutes after the firefighters arrived.

A woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Red Cross was called to help the four people displaced by the fire which moderately damaged the house.

Units responded to another fire a few hours later, around 3:57 a.m., in the 4500 block of Logmill Road in Haymarket. Matt Smolsky, the deputy fire chief, said a passerby reported a fire in a garage.

When crews arrived, they found that the garage was completely engulfed in flames. They were able to bring the fire under control shortly after arriving on scene.

No injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshal's Office is still working to determine the cause of the Haymarket and Sudley fires.
