Firefighters extinguish brush fire in Antioch after street evacuated

Contra Costa firefighters successfully contained a prairie fire that broke out Thursday night after the blaze forced the evacuation of Lotus St. residents, authorities said.

The Contra Costa Fire PIO X social media account first posted about the fire at 10:13 p.m. in the 2700 block of Hillcrest Ave. in Antioch.

Additional crews were called in to help protect structures before firefighters began evacuations on Lotus Street around 10:30 p.m., according to a post on X.

Fortunately, crews were able to stop the fire from spreading and extinguish it shortly after 11 p.m.

Crews will remain on scene to ensure the fire does not reignite overnight. Authorities have not said when the evacuation order might be lifted.

This incident is one of five brush fires crews have responded to in Contra Costa. Several of them have occurred in Antioch, as well as an additional incident each in Bay Point and Martinez. All of the fires have been contained with no injuries reported. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of any of the fires.
