Firefighters extinguish a car fire at a gas station pump, Turner, ME

By the time emergency crews arrived at Terry and Maxine's home on Route 4, the Audi was fully engulfed in flames, according to Turner Fire Chief Nicholas Merry.

TURNER, Maine — A dangerous situation occurred Sunday evening in Turner when a vehicle parked near a gas pump was completely engulfed in flames.

The Turner Fire Department was called shortly after 10 p.m., Fire Chief Nicholas Merry told NEWS CENTER Maine.

By the time emergency crews arrived at Terry and Maxine's home on Route 4, the Audi was fully engulfed in flames, despite the efforts of employees who deployed a firefighter, according to the chief.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire in about 90 seconds. Turner firefighters were assisted at the scene by Minot firefighters, who brought a water truck in case more water was needed, the chief said.

Officials from the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene and closed the northbound lane of Route 4, also known as Auburn Road, while crews worked to contain the fire.

No injuries were reported in the fire and only the fuel pump located near the car was damaged. The other fuel pumps are fully operational, according to the chief.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
