Firefighters battle wildfire threatening homes in Antioch

At 1:45 p.m. Saturday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire in the city of Antioch.

The fire was reported on a hillside in Asilomar and Palomar. When the crew of Engine 88 arrived on scene, the fire was estimated to be half an acre in size and was being blown toward homes. 8 Battalion requested protection of structures in Yorkshire.

Other fires Friday:

  • 9:41 a.m.: Prior to this house fire, Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a field near Highway 4 and Lone Tree Way where a tractor was working. Crews arrived at a 1/8 acre fire and were able to limit the spread to approximately 1 acre. This incident was closed in less than an hour.
  • 3:46 p.m. – CONFIRE responds to the 2700 E Leland block area in Pittsburgh for a vegetation fire but quickly managed to bring it under control. No word yet on the extent of this fire.

Other fires Thursday

  • 2:56 p.m. – 4900 block Concord Boulevard, Concord: This fire threw a huge cloud of smoke into the air which was captured by the camera on Mt. Diablo and the teams responded and launched a rapid fire attack into the perimeter. Town of Concorde. The fire was estimated to be between 1 and 3 acres in size. Crews had access issues due to the length of the pipes and vehicle. available to touch the ground. At least one house was evacuated as a precaution. No further details have been released
  • 3:49 p.m. – 1600 block Slatten Ranch Rd, Antioch: This fire broke out along the train tracks near eBART on approximately 1/8 of an acre when the first crew arrived on scene, but due to the afternoon wind it spread spread to a 2 alarm response and eventually impacted 20 acres within the perimeter. Antioch City . A sheriff's helicopter was on scene to provide water drops while Crew 12 was on hand to work vegetation. The fire was brought under control, however, crews dealt with not only vegetation, but also homeless people in the area, buildings, equipment, PVC pipes and other miscellaneous items that burned.   • 4:33 p.m. – 1 Marina Plaza, Antioch California This fire began as a smoke investigation, but it was quickly determined to be an active vegetation fire, with the fire located in the marsh area behind the marina. The fire escalated to a 2-alarm response with structure protection and included water drops from the Sheriff's Office – this helicopter was removed from the Slatten Ranch incident above. The fire was limited to 5 acres.
