Firefighters battle vegetation fire in Pittsburgh

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is battling a vegetation fire in the city of Pittsburg Sunday afternoon.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 4:40 p.m. Sunday along John Henry Johnson Drive, off W Leland Road. As units responded, heavy smoke was observed in the air.

At 4:44 p.m., Engine 87 was on scene and reported a fully involved cabin/storage building with vegetation on fire and running up a hill. A full vegetation response was requested.

As of 4:53 p.m., the wildland fire was estimated to be over 10 acres.

At 4:59 p.m., the structure fire was fully involved and crews were in “full defensive mode.” The wildfire was estimated to be between 5 and 10 acres, CALFIRE and air support are still expected to continue.

At 1718, CONFIRE established structure protection in the surrounding area while CALFIRE air support was requested to continue toward the area. The fire was 35 acres.

As of 5:33 p.m., CONFIRE said wind was still fueling the fire and it was larger than 40 acres. They may have been considering evacuations on Golf Club Road.

As of 5:55 p.m., the fire was 50 acres and 0% contained. Evacuations were still possible.

As of 6:05 p.m., the fire was still at 50 acres, however, CONFIRE said the fire was 40% contained. Evacuations still possible
