Firefighters battle 137-acre wildfire in Otay Mesa

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Firefighters are battling a 137-acre wildland fire near Otay Truck Trail in the Otay Mesa area, according to Cal Fire. The fire, which broke out around 3:28 p.m. Saturday, was spreading eastward into wilderness areas Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said no evacuation orders or warnings had been issued and no structures were threatened.

As of 4:30 p.m., the fire was moving away from correctional facilities and residential areas in the city of Chula Vista. According to a Cal Fire spokesperson, the direction of the fire is unlikely to change unless there is a significant change in wind patterns, which is not expected.

As of 5:21 p.m., Cal Fire officials said the fire was still about 100 acres.

Cal Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighting efforts continue to contain the fire and prevent its spread.

Updated information indicates the fire grew to 137 acres as of 5:55 p.m. Officials said planes were making good progress fighting the fire.
