Fire prompts evacuations in north Los Angeles

Evacuation orders remained in effect Sunday as the Post Fire in the Gorman area, north of Los Angeles, grew to 14,625 acres by Sunday morning.

NBCLA reported the fire was burning near the southbound 5 Freeway and Gorman Road.

The fire was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, according to CAL FIRE.

The fire had doubled in size by Sunday morning and was 2% contained as of 8 p.m. Sunday.

One commercial property was destroyed and 10 others were threatened, according to CAL FIRE. Fifty houses were threatened.

“Firefighters are engaged in a wildfire in Gorman near Hungry Valley Park, moving southeast toward Pyramid Lake,” CAL FIRE said in a statement. “Currently, crews are working to construct perimeter fire lines around the flakes of the fire. Aircraft are working to stop the advance but have limited visibility. Currently, the fire is spreading to Hungry Valley Park .”

Evacuation warnings were sent to areas south of Pyramid Lake, between Old Ridge Route and the Los Angeles County line, including Paradise Ranch Estates.
