Fire on Ironwood Road in Palomino Valley burns two latrines and evacuations are lifted | News

A spokesperson for Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue confirmed that a brush fire on Ironwood Road in Palomino Valley burned two latrines.

The fire burned nearly 172 acres according to an article on X from Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue.

Any further progression of the fire has been stopped and fire crews will remain on site overnight and into the weekend.

No injuries were reported from the fire and no residential structures were lost.

Update, 6:40 p.m.:

Evacuations in the area have been lifted and residents can now return home.









Update, 4:20 p.m.:

According to TMFR, several agencies are on scene to help fight the fire.

They are currently working to protect homes and outbuildings.

An air tanker is on scene dropping fire retardant.

Update, 4:10 p.m.:

The Reno Fire Department said in an online post that it was responding to help TMFR and BLM fight the brush fire.

RFD says they are currently sending two brush trucks (equipped with four firefighters) and a battalion chief.

Update, 3:50 p.m.:

According to TMFR, the fire is approximately 50 acres in size.

They ask residents to check Perimeter map for areas located in the evacuation zone.

Large animals that need to be evacuated can be taken to the UNR Equestrian Center, located at 1290 Valley Rd, Reno.

Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue crews are on the scene of a brush fire near Virginia Peak, south of Pyramid Lake.

According to TMFR, the fire is approximately 10 acres in size and located from Ironwood Drive to Wilcox Drive in Palomino Valley.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, evacuations are underway near Ironwood Road and Pyramid Highway.
