Fire marshal closes Indianapolis restaurant near scene of mass stabbing – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indianapolis Traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Authorities have closed a restaurant on the city's northwest side, near where nine people were stabbed early Monday morning.

A sign found Tuesday on the front door of Miami's Garden Restaurant and Lounge near 71st Street reads: “This business is hereby closed by order of the Pike Township Fire Marshal.”

Pike Township Fire Marshal Jeff Beam shared the following statement with News 8:

Following the recent incident at Miami's Garden, our Fire Prevention Division became aware of general Marion County and City of Indianapolis code/permit issues with the establishment, resulting in the closure order. The establishment will be able to reopen once these code/permitting issues have been resolved with the City of Indianapolis.

Chief Beam did not specify which codes were violated or how long the problems had existed before Monday's mass attack.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Woodland Drive shortly after 3:30 a.m. Monday for a report that several people had been stabbed during a fight. It's outside the Woodland Shoppes mall and Miami's Garden.

Officers arrived and found nine people suffering from various stab wounds or trauma in the parking lot:

  • Five people went to hospital. Three were in critical condition. Two were in stable condition.
  • Four people were treated at the scene.

One of the people seriously injured in the fight was a person of interest, IMPD said.

Investigators believe a fight broke out between two groups of people, leading to a massive stabbing. The cause of the fight was unclear.

Estinfil Filsmarge, 27, was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted murder and battery.

Anyone with information or who was in the area between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday was asked to contact IMPD aggravated assault detectives at 317-327-3475.
