Fire in Darlene 3 with a containment rate of 42%

There are several active wildfires throughout Oregon. Here is the latest information on the largest and most active fires.

Darlene 3 Fire Reaches 42% Containment Near La Pine, Oregon

The Darlene 3 Fire burning outside La Pine in Deschutes County grew to 3,889 acres Thursday and did not expand overnight. Central Oregon Fire Info said the fire was 42% contained. Due to the reduced danger, evacuation orders have been reduced in some areas.

Due to cooler temperatures and calmer winds on Thursday, crews were able to reinforce containment lines. According to Central Oregon Fire Info, the same calm weather is expected to continue over the next few days, which will help crews continue to reinforce containment lines.

“Crews successfully protected key community assets including the La Pine Community Cemetery off Reed Road, power lines, a cell tower and the town's water supply. Due to the decreased fire risk to the community, fire officials were able to release some of OSFM's structural protection task forces back to their home agencies,” the agency said in a statement from press.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office lowered some evacuation warnings and orders Friday afternoon.

The Newberry Estates subdivision has been reduced from Level 3 “Go Now” to Level 2 “Be Prepared” and the residential area immediately north of Burgess Road and east of the Little Deschutes River has been reduced from Level 1 “Be Prepared” to no evacuation notice.

Deschutes County officials suggest residents understand that risks still exist and that they should always be prepared to evacuate at a moment's notice. An evacuation map and updated information is available at www.deschutes.org/emergency.

Campfires are permitted only in central Oregon campgrounds

Public lands in Central Oregon will move to Phase 1 of campfire use restrictions on Monday. This primarily means that campfires will only be allowed in designated campgrounds within the fire rings of the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests.

“Due to increasingly hot and dry conditions, all fires, wood stoves and charcoal briquette fires in non-designated campgrounds will be prohibited,” officials said.

A complete list of restrictions and details regarding campsites is available at centraloregonfire.org.

Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest imposes fire restrictions

Hot, dry conditions coupled with a moderate fire risk in southern Oregon have prompted Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest officials to move to Phase 1 of public use restrictions starting Saturday. Campfires will be allowed only in designated campgrounds.

More information about the restriction order can be found at fs.usda.gov/alerts/rogue-siskiyou/alerts-notices/?aid=88429.

Progress continues in fighting the Upper Applegate fire

The Upper Applegate Fire burning south of Ruch in Jackson County remained at 937 acres and 15% cleared as of Friday morning. Fire crews worked through the night to increase the direct line around the fire to 70%, leaving 30% indirect.

The area experienced cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity. Strategic fire operations were used to help close the gap between the fire boundary and the indirect line on a portion of the north end.
