Fire crews stop wildfires from spreading at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

DENVER (KDVR) — A small wildfire was reported Saturday afternoon at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.

The fire was reportedly located near East 64th Avenue and North Peoria Street and was brought under control around 5:10 p.m.

Five engines were initially in service around 3:50 p.m., with more on the way, according to the Wildlife Refuge's social media accounts. The wildlife refuge said it was a human-caused fire.

Brighton fire crews helped contain the wildfires and the fire was estimated to have spread between 12 and 15 acres. As of 7:40 p.m., Wildlife Drive and all trails were reopened to the public following the wildfire.

Conditions on Saturday were hot and dry. The armory warned visitors that although the area appears green, fires will nevertheless spread quickly in the current environment.
