Fire broke out during Terrace Plaza demolition; a firefighter is slightly injured

A fire was started by a torch amid the ongoing demolition of the Terrace Plaza building downtown, according to Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Flagler of the Cincinnati Fire Department. A firefighter suffered minor fall-related injuries during the response just after 10:30 a.m. Flagler Visibility was reduced to zero as smoke filled the basement, creating dangerous conditions for crews, said Flagler. The fire is now out, but crews continue to work to exhume smoke from the basement where the fire started. This work should be completed within the next hour. The demolition workers present on site escaped safely without injury. Flagler said demolition operations should be able to continue once fire crews finish their work Thursday. Cincinnati police said W. 6th Street from Vine Street was closed.

Visibility was reduced to zero as smoke filled the basement, creating dangerous conditions for crews, Flagler said.
