Fire breaks out on massive Icon of the Seas ship days after departure

A fire broke out Tuesday on the world's largest cruise ship – the same liner where a passenger plunged to his death last month.

Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico, when the small fire broke out, causing a brief loss of power on the massive ship, officials told USA Today.

The fire was isolated to an area reserved for the crew and was quickly extinguished without causing any injuries.

The ship's emergency power has been activated, preventing the ship from straying from its course. The 20-deck ship is on a weeklong Western Caribbean cruise from Miami, Florida, on Saturday, according to CruiseMapper.

The minor fire is not the first notable incident on the Icon of the Seas since it set sail on its maiden voyage in January.

In May, a passenger jumped from the 360-meter cruise ship on the first day of a weeklong expedition to Honduras. The boat was then only 300 miles from its original port in Florida.

Passengers told the Post of the “dystopian” scene that followed as people on board prematurely celebrated being pulled from the water, assuming the man was alive.

A month earlier, 20-year-old passenger Levion Parker plunged to his death on another Royal Caribbean cruise after an apparent drunken fight with his father.

His remains have yet to be found after he climbed through a window of the Liberty of the Seas and jumped in front of his younger brother and father.

Royal Caribbean did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment.
