HARWICH – Hinckley Home Center and the Harwich Chamber of Commerce are continuing an event started last fall to honor public safety officials for the service they provide to local communities.

Chamber Executive Director Cyndi Williams said she will work with Hinckley staff to host a Fire and Rescue Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the parking lot front of the Hinckley Home Centre, at the intersection of routes 137 and 39.

Hinckley and the chamber worked together to organize Law Enforcement Appreciation Day last September. That event was dampened by heavy rain and high winds, but attendance was steady, Williams said.

“This is an event about giving back,” Williams said this week, “thanking firefighters and rescue workers for all the work they do and keeping us safe.”

Williams said she and Hinckley Principal Cathy Carhart planned the event and contacted several fire departments. Harwich and Chatham responded positively and staff and equipment from these departments will be present at the event. They are still waiting to hear from the Brewster Fire Department, she said.

The event will include touch-a-truck opportunities for kids with fire apparatus, country and western band North Country playing outside in the parking lot, representatives from the Brewster office of the Animal Rescue League of Boston and food truck Red River Barbecue. . Firefighters will be on hand to answer questions.

Hinckley Home Center will be open normal hours on Saturday and additional parking will be provided in the lumberyard.
