Fire Academy partners with Texas A&M Forest Service | Police, fires and arrests

The Kilgore College Fire Academy just completed the first ever wildland firefighter course in KC using the National Wildland Coordination Group (NWCG) curriculum.

The 40-hour course was produced through a partnership and memorandum of understanding between the Texas A&M Forest Service and KC.

“We have hired highly qualified, motivated and passionate instructors who have been selected and approved to teach the course by the Texas A&M Forest Service with certifications for the NWCG, which equips the student to fight wildfires in the nationally and internationally,” said KC Fire Director Johnny Zackary. Academy.

Firefighters who completed the course also earned a Basic Wilderness Certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) which can be used in their respective fire departments and throughout Texas.

This relationship between KC and the Texas A&M Forest Service allows more firefighters to obtain these certifications to ensure Texas is ready for the next wildfire.

“We are in the planning phase for the next course we will offer in the fall,” Zackary said.
