FIR filed against Prajwal Revanna's brother in alleged sexual assault case

Bengaluru, June 23: The Karnataka Police on Saturday evening filed an FIR against JD(S) MLC and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson Suraj Revanna and summoned him to the police station for a interrogation in connection with the alleged sexual assault case filed by a JD(S) employee, police said.

Suraj Revanna arrived at Holenarasipura rural police station and is being questioned by the police.

Police sources do not rule out the possibility of arresting Suraj Revanna during the investigation.

Police registered an FIR against Suraj Revanna under sections 377 (unnatural sex), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

The victim in this case had sent her complaint to the DGP office and the Hassan police commissioner.

The police, after obtaining the copy of the complaint in this regard, transferred the case to the jurisdictional police station Holenarasipur Rural.

The police had contacted the victim in connection with the alleged sexual assault case and recorded her statement.

The police had also taken the victim for a medical examination.

Sources said the victim was taken to Bengaluru for medical check-ups on his insistence.

Reacting to the development, Suraj Revanna said that it was a political conspiracy against him and he had no idea how long it would last.

“Baseless allegations are being made against me and I categorically reject these allegations. Things will be settled legally and an FIR will also be filed against the victim.”

“Let there be an investigation and the truth should come out. I have faith in the law of the land. This is a conspiracy, and I will not comment on it today. I will not point finger anyone. An investigation is underway and the truth will come out. The citizens of the state will know the truth,” he added.

The victim alleged that she met Suraj Revanna at a function organized by him.

Impressed with her organizational skills, Suraj Revanna allegedly shared her mobile number and started sending endearing messages with love symbols.

She was asked to meet him at his farm where he was allegedly the victim of sexual abuse.

Suraj Revanna's elder brother and former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has been arrested in connection with the sex video scandal.

Her father JD(S) MLA HD Revanna was jailed and released on bail in a kidnapping case linked to the sex video scandal.

His mother, Bhavani Revanna, is being investigated in a kidnapping case and was recently granted conditional release from the court.

The Karnataka Police also filed an FIR against two people for extortion following allegations of sexual abuse against Suraj Revanna.

Shivakumar, Suraj Revanna's aide, lodged a complaint against the victim and her relatives at Holenarasipura police station.

Shivakumar said in the complaint that false allegations were made against Suraj Revanna to extort money.

The complaint claimed that the accused had threatened Suraj Revanna to file a sexual abuse case if he did not pay Rs 5 crore.

The police registered a case under sections 384 (extortion) and 584 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
