As is tradition, The Finals received its weekly update on Wednesday. The patch notes for this update included a few nerfs and buffs, as well as several important bug fixes. Although the update was significant, the patch notes did not mention an issue. secret melee weapon improvement noticed by The Finals community.

You can check out the patch notes for update 2.10.0 to see all the buffs, nerfs, and fixes. Along with this new update, Embark is giving players 10x XP for a limited time, and the final community event of Season 2 has started with a new free item for players to earn.

One of the highlights of the patch notes are improvements to the throwing knives as well as a nerf to the APS turret. While both of these changes are significant and noticeable in the game, The Finals community has also noticed the addition of AOE damage for melee weapons.

Finale Fans Notice Added AOE Damage to Melee Weapons

Shared by Tigersenpai on Reddit, The Finals' most recent update appears to have added AOE hammer damage. The Reddit post is accompanied by gameplay showing the hammer hitting two training dummies simultaneously in a single swing.

The OP expanded on the massive changes in the comments: “Since I see a bunch of confused people, let me explain. I'm a sled master, the damage hitbox still remained during overtime, but the game did NOT allow you to hit more than a single target in a single hit. This was actually a completely new mechanic added in this latest update.”

In the comments, players have admitted to being able to hit two dummies at once during practice, but it now seems to work against real players. It was only possible to hit a single player with a melee weapon, but the community says that maces and swords are now capable of hitting two players simultaneously during combat.

Again, this is not included in the patch notes. In the comments, the OP mentions “I hope this isn't unintentional…I've been asking this forever.” It's possible this is unintentional, similar to the free-appearing ability introduced in 2.9.0 and then removed in 2.10.0.

It has not yet been recognized by Embark, so it remains to be seen whether it will be removed. Fans are hoping it doesn't get removed because the community is excited about this addition, intentional or not. One user commented, “This should have always been this way,” while another user commented, “like a big principal, I LOVE THIS.”

While maces can now hit two people with swings, some claim the sword is now capable of hitting two players with lunges. Some users in the comments consider this to be OP, which suggests that these changes are unintentional and will likely be reverted. That remains to be seen, but we should know by next week's update.
