Fight between group of teenagers at Narragansett Beach results in arrest of 18-year-old on weapon charge – Fall River Reporter

Chief Sean Corrigan reports that an arrest was made following an incident at Narragansett Town Beach on Wednesday.

Narragansett Police and Community Service Officers patrolled the area of ​​Narragansett Town Beach shortly after 9:30 p.m. when the CSOs observed a group of teenagers involved in an argument that escalated into a fight.

Narragansett Town Beach security arrived and attempted to disperse the crowd. During the commotion, one individual, later identified as 18-year-old Joshua Adams of North Kingstown, fled the scene, and beach security indicated that the man had a gun.

A witness later described to police officers that Adams had been yelling and waving a gun.

After a brief foot pursuit, CSOs safely detained Adams. Arriving police officers found a replica BB gun in Adams' possession and placed him under arrest.

Adams was arrested and charged with Carrying a Weapon While Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs and Disorderly Conduct.

“Displaying a weapon, real or replica, is an extremely dangerous act,” said Chief Corrigan. “Responding police officers often have only a split second to decide whether they are facing a lethal threat. I am proud of our Police Officers and Community Service Officers, who showed restraint and handled the entire situation professionally.”

The Narragansett Police Department emphasizes that the phrase “alcohol and guns do not mix.” Individuals whose judgment may be impaired by any substance should not handle firearms, whether real or replica, with or without a permit.
