Fight at child's birthday party led to shooting at Harford Mall, suspect still on the run

BALTIMORE — A dangerous armed man remains on the run and two women have been arrested in connection with a shooting at a child's birthday party on Sunday inside Harford Mallaccording to police.

A 42-year-old man was shot three times at Harford Bounce Party Place after an altercation at a birthday party.

Wesley Larry Lyons Jr., 35, is the suspected shooter and has not been arrested, but there is now a $2,000 reward for information leading officers to him.

An arrest warrant was issued by the Harford County State's Attorney's Office. It lists attempted first-degree murder, assault and inadvertent endangerment, among other crimes, as potential charges.

However, two women were arrested when police found the suspect's car near his home in Edgewood.

Lisa Gregg, Lyons' mother, and his alleged girlfriend, Lateia Green, were charged with attempted accomplice murder. They are being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center.

According to charging documents obtained by WJZ, Gregg and Green fled the scene with Lyons in his maroon SUV.

The documents accuse Gregg of being involved in an “altercation” with another woman during which punches were thrown. Green reportedly attempted to remove Gregg from the fight.

Using surveillance video, the prosecutor accuses Lyons of firing a handgun multiple times at the victim, “as if he was intentionally trying to kill” the man.

Both Green and Gregg left the stage with Lyons.

When police found Green and Gregg, charging documents say Gregg initially provided a false address to officers. They call her a “flight risk” because she did not provide a fixed address.

The state's attorney's office says Green and Gregg played a “significant role” in concealing Lyon's location.

Bel Air Police Chief Charles Moore said Lyons was likely no longer in the area and a law enforcement team was searching for him.

“It’s cowardly,” Moore said.

Police said there was a fight between family members when Lyons pulled out a gun and shot the man three times – twice in the leg and once in the hand. He was airlifted to a hospital in Baltimore and is expected to be OK.

“There was a physical altercation between two women and he was involved,” Moore said. “Again, it started to escalate. And then Mr. Lyons, you know, extends a little punch and fires a number of shots.”

The call was initially reported as an active shooter situation until police got some more clarity on the dispute.

“We have children, we have other family members who could have been injured or killed,” Moore said.

Mall shoppers told WJZ they are worried about the future of the mall.

“Something like that hadn’t even occurred to me,” said customer Anne Marie Gillespie Shaw. “I think about things, like things could happen. Things happen these days, anywhere. It was like that close to home.”

Bel Air police said several agencies, including the ATF and the U.S. Marshals Service, were searching for Lyons.

Moore said Lyons is no stranger to the criminal justice system.

“So he’s a coward,” Moore said. “He must surrender quickly.”

Police say there is no threat to the public, but Lyon is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Witnesses or anyone with additional information should contact Bel Air police at 410-638-4500 or the Metro Crimestoppers anonymous line at 866-7LockUp.
