Ferienjob case: Interpol issues red notice concerning two Indonesian human trafficking suspects

TEMPO.CO, JakartaHead of the International Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Krishna Murti, said that the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) had issued a red notice against two Indonesian citizens suspected of human trafficking.

The two suspects, currently in Germany, are Amisulistiani or Ami Ensch, boss of PT CVGEN; and Enik Rutita or Enik Waldkonig, boss of PT Sinar Harapan Bangsa (PT SHB). “(The Red Notice) is published and the German authorities are informed,” Krishna said in a brief text on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Ami and Enik are suspected of profiting from sending Indonesian students to Germany under an internship program called ferienjob. The authorities summoned Ami and Enik several times to investigate, to no avail. So, the police added both of their names to the wanted list.

The national police highlighted the role of several officials from dozens of universities in the human trafficking case, including two Jakarta State University professors, MZ and AJ, who were named as suspects. They were allegedly active in promoting the ferienjob program and sent their students to Germany for an internship.

Investigation results showed that the suspects shared roles in sending the students to Germany, from authorizing the distance learning permit to lending security deposits to the students. However, during the three months of the internship in Germany, the students did not benefit from online courses. During the three months the students worked in Germany, there were no online classes.

The suspects allegedly actively invited various universities to participate in the Ferienjob internship program, but did not provide clear information to students about the implications of the Ferienjob program.
