Felon sentenced to 40 years in prison for second degree murder | News

TULSA, Okla. — A felon was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in Indian Country.

Rahmon Lawrence Macon, Jr., 31, of Tulsa, was arrested in 2022 for a shooting that killed a bystander.

Police said Aliza Crook, 19, died after Macon Jr. shot her in the head.

According to a plea agreement, in November 2022, Macon got into an argument with another man at a gas station in east Tulsa.

Court documents say the man left with Aliza Cook in the passenger seat. Macon followed them and fired several shots at the car, fatally striking Aliza.

Macon, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, was arrested by detectives and FBI agents. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced on June 13, 2024, to 40 years in prison plus five years of supervised release.

“Macon was reckless and careless in his actions that resulted in the death of an innocent bystander, Aliza Crook,” said United States Attorney Clint J. Johnson. “I hope this sentence brings some form of justice to Aliza’s loved ones who courageously spoke in court today.”

The U.S. Attorney's Office says evidence revealed Macon tried to dissuade witnesses from cooperating with the FBI.

Macon had just been released from prison six months before the shooting, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Aliza Crook's family donated her heart, kidneys and liver, saving the lives of two people.

Macon will remain in custody before being transferred to federal prison to serve his sentence.
