TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – An inmate at the Terre Haute Federal Correctional Complex was just sentenced to another 32 months for possessing an improvised weapon.

Javon Britton, 44, of Georgia, was convicted in 2015 of robbery and two counts of brandishing a firearm. He was later sentenced in Georgia to 11 and a half years. Meanwhile, he is serving his sentence at the Terre Haute complex.

On April 29, 2019, Britton was walking out of the prison dining room and came across a metal detector. Upon entering, staff realized he had something metallic in his possession. After being searched by an officer, a homemade weapon was found in his right jacket pocket.

The weapon consisted of a combination of a padlock attached to a belt. When the weapon was discovered, Britton attempted to run away but was then attacked by several officers. Officers were able to subdue Britton and remove the improvised weapon.

A Justice Department statement said Britton's case was later extended for 32 months.
