LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WJW) – Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the drowning of a father and son in a Virginia lake over the weekend.

According to the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, deputies and other first responders were called to reports of a child drowning at Lake Anna shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arriving at the scene, police learned that the boy's father had entered the water to save his son, but a witness said he was also struggling and they lost sight of him.

Others at the scene went into the water but were unable to find them, the sheriff's office said.

First responders and dive team divers found and recovered the victims' bodies from the lake. The father, 42, and son, 14, both from out of state, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their bodies were transported to the medical examiner in Richmond, according to investigators.

Deputies do not believe foul play was involved in the drowning, which is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Louisa County Sheriff's Office CID Unit at (540) 967-1234.
