Father-son shooting in Glendale leaves father dead, police say

PHOENIX — A 14-year-old Glendale boy fatally shot his father Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 4 p.m. at a residence near Olive and 67th Avenue, according to Glendale police.

He killed his father, Joshua Lee Goldman, 39, police said.

The father and son lived together, along with the suspect's grandfather and sister, who reportedly argued with Goldman before the shooting.

The suspect allegedly fled on foot with a friend after shooting his father and left in his father's Toyota Camry.

He then tried to flee Arizona and go to Las Vegas, leading officers on a car chase to escape arrest, according to court documents. He reportedly drove at speeds of up to 130 mph during the chase.

Officers stopped him on Interstate 40 near Kingman after using a grappling hook to stop the car.

The suspect was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm as a minor.

What led to the alleged father-son shooting in Glendale?

The incident began when the father demanded a phone that the sister had given to her brother, according to court documents. The father allegedly shouted at the sister before breaking her tablet. He then left his room, closed the door and was shot twice by the suspect, according to court documents.

The suspect's sister and grandfather told police they thought Goldman was high on drugs when his son shot him, according to court documents.

Police found four gunshot wounds in Goldman's body, according to court documents.

The suspect's grandfather and his sister told police the victim may have relapsed into using illegal drugs weeks before the shooting, which caused him to become more argumentative in the time leading up to the shooting, according to court documents.
