Father, son drown in Lake Anna, Louisa County Sheriff's Office investigates

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Louisa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the drowning of a 42-year-old father and 14-year-old son in Lake Anna.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office and other emergency crews responded to Lake Anna in the area of ​​Carrs Bridge Road around 1:10 p.m. Saturday, May 25, for a report of a child drowning.


Along the way, officers were informed that the child's father had attempted to find and rescue his son. It was reported that witnesses observed the father struggling, just before losing sight of him as well.

According to authorities, several people jumped into the water to try to find the two individuals, but without success.

Marine units from the county Sheriff's Office, volunteer rescue teams, the Department of Wildlife Resources and the Spotsylvania County Dive and Fire Team were on scene to help locate and recover the bodies of the father and of the son, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. .

Both victims were transported to the medical examiner's office in Richmond for examination, officials said.

According to the sheriff's office, both father and son were from out of state and their names will not be released pending notification of next of kin.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office does not suspect any type of foul play.
