Fatal shooting at Elleven45 salon; arrest made, family says

Police did not provide the name of the person arrested.

ATLANTA — Family members of victims of the Buckhead shootings that left two people dead in May say an arrest was made Wednesday evening.

11Alive reached out to authorities to confirm this and get additional information, but did not receive a response. The family also said they also did not know who this person was, but they received a call from law enforcement informing them that someone had been taken into custody.

It all happened in May, on Mother's Day, when a single gunman opened fire at the club and shot dead six people: Mari Creighton, 21, who was a volleyball player at the University of Albany State, Nakyris M. Ridley, 20, has died. , and four others were injured.

Police said the targeted person was one of two people who died, but did not say which of those two people was the targeted person.

Since then, Creighton's family has filed a lawsuit against the club, claiming that due to the defendants' “actions and/or inactions, which led to the tragic and completely avoidable death of Mariam Creighton.”

The suit claims “defendants allowed one or more armed individuals to enter and remain inside the crowded premises for an extended period of time where alcohol was being served,” adding that a customer engaged in a confrontation that “escalated to the point where the gunmen pulled out his handgun and fired numerous shots into the crowded nightclub…” hitting the victims.

In addition to the lawsuit, the City of Atlanta filed a lawsuit against Elleven45, seeking a temporary restraining order against the club, its owners, and the club's owner. The city asked the courts to declare Elleven45 a public nuisance and prevent the sale of alcohol on the property “in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public.”

The club responded Friday, saying it was “racially targeted.” referencing 11Alive's reporting.

Earlier this month, 11Alive combed through 1,547 calls for service at the lounge dating back to June 2020, discovering that more than 1,100 off-duty Atlanta police officers had provided security at the club.

Only three of the calls were for violent crimes: one was for the most recent shooting, a shooting in November 2023, and a stabbing in 2021. The others were miscellaneous calls, ranging from noise complaints to thefts.
