Fast-moving wildfire breaks out in Hesperia area – San Bernardino Sun

A fast-moving vegetation fire broke out Saturday evening off Highway 173 in Hesperia, prompting authorities to call in water planes and issue an evacuation warning for Lake Arrowhead Estates.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 p.m. in the 18000 block of Highway 173, according to Cal Fire.

It was initially seven acres and potentially threatened at least one structure.

Within two hours, the fire, sparked by high winds, grew to about 300 acres, Cal Fire reported. At approximately 8:40 p.m., the measured area was 500 acres with 5 percent containment.

The warning for Lake Arrowhead Estates was issued around 8:20 p.m.

According to CHP logs, fire crews requested that Arrowhead Lake Road be closed at Ranchero Road to the north and 173 be closed at Highway 138 to the south.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
